Ok, here’s my theory: on the song Through the Phone Cardi B talks about going through her dude’s phone and finding out that he’s cheating. She makes a “bon appetit” reference, which is the Katy Perry song that Migos were featured on. So I’m speculating that Offset slipped, tripped, fell and landed in Katy. You know how it goes.
But let’s talk about the album…
When Bodak Yellow dropped, I was like “Enhhh, I can see why other people like it but I could take it or leave it. Her voice is trash.” And this morning when Cardi B’s debut album Invasion of Privacy came across my Spotify, I had low expectations. But that whole album is fire. FIRE. Do you hear me?!
I didn’t watch Love & Hip Hop, I didn’t know of the pre-Bodak Yellow Cardi. But over the last (less than a) year of seeing her on social media, at award shows, on TV, basically everywhere, her “I got some ish to say and you’re going to hear it” attitude has won me over. I watched a video of her trying to explain why she’s outraged and she said something along the lines of “I don’t know the right words to use, but you know what I’m trying to say” as Offset was in the background throwing words to her. Also, check out this article from a few months ago dissecting the feminism and activism of Cardi.
I like a chick who has a strong opinion. Her personality has made me a fan. And then this album drops. And I’m already listening to it on repeat. So, Cardi B, if you read this — I owe you an apology for immediately dismissing you because you’re real and talented AF.
Listen and tell me: FIRE or nah?!
